I will react to the comment by Oyedun, he said, " Why should companies preferred to waste money on star mega jams, project fame etc. Are they too poor to sponsor researches in our institutions of higher learning. We loved to copy-copy, a nation of copycats, We copy American Idols, We copy Umbrella (Ebutte-Metta), We copy Paradise hotel, We copy Big-brother, We copy Dancing with the stars. We copy without thinking that the society we have copied from had invested so much on their citizen and they have reach the time to enjoy and partake in entertainment" Its quite a thought provoking statement that he made. But come to think of it, what if it is the path that will lead to our industrialization?

Ogho, its a brilliant piece. We profess to be Christians with our mouth but our hearts are a million miles away from God. We can achieve the greatness we desire in this nation if we make up our minds to be our own personal leaders. Task ourselves to be distinct in our attitudes and approach to life, before we now look for external leaders to set a course for our life as a nation.
Cheers!

Hmmm ......... well a bit positive development as regards the story, i believe it could also provide a platform for more positive actions, those culprits (the policemen must face the law and given necessary judgement, i wish to hear that it was impossible for this case to be swept under as usual.

Weldone my Brother, your publication came well ahead of Vanguard newspaper, to me that is very good work you've done, please keep on keeping on, cheers.

Very well put together, Ogho. Welldone.

Nigeria needs visionary leaders who are well informed, driven by the right values, focused, are actively involved in nation building projects/activities, and then have a genuine fear of God.

Religion doesn't solve the problem, it's the cause of it, because many people are caught in the web of hypocrisy. If we have leaders who model the right values, we'll move faster than we thought we would. We will get there!

"You must get into public service with a clear vision of what you want
to achieve. This was something our current President did very well. He
had a seven point agenda that if clearly followed will take Nigeria to
one of the top 20 economies in the world."
Thanks Ogho for the concise article. In as much as I agree with your viewpoint. I had to disagree with the statement above. The fact that a man told his wife or delivered a speech during the tying of the nuptial knot or on the wedding day doesn't meant that the man won't cheat on his wife and it doesn't meant that such men won't battered their wife when the occasion arises. For a president to have good intention, we don't need a speech, what we need is action and attitude.
The President once declared a 'Power emergency'before it was cancelled and it took more than a year before the president realises that the ingredients for the emergency are not on the ground. I wonder what kind of ingredients we need. Year 2020 is around the corner and it is just 12years from now. The question is 'Can Nigeria be among the top 20 economies in the world in 12 years time? I think you know the answer, everyone reading this know it. I don't have to be Nostradamus to predict that.
Lagos State is surrounded by water, it is more than 15years since I drink from public tap water funded by the state government of the country that wish to be among top 20 economy.
I have been using generator for the past two weeks. No electricity from the government funded PHCN.
I don't have to mention the state of the road or that President Yar'dua promise to create more than a million jobs each year. Where are the jobs?
You did mentioned the Japanese as a case study, how 1871 was a watershed in their history. But in less than 30 years Japan had already become a powerful force, they demanded their respect from all European countries by defeating the Russian army during the Russo-Japanese war in 1904-1905. The defeat took the European power by surprise and they were afraid of the gap Japan had close in such a short span.
Now, do you think any of our leaders think in that direction? From what I learnt in African history especially from the memoirs of European explorers during their exploration of Africa. The African continent was painted as 'Merry Africa' a set of people who loved entertainment, who preferred to wriggle their waist in the village square during the moonlit. The fact is how far have we evolve from the statement of Mungo Park and H M Stanley? The fact is there for us to see as we preferred to sponsor the research on enzema while we don't plan to donate a kobo to fund a research on leprosy.
Why should companies preferred to waste money on star mega jams, project fame etc. Are they too poor to sponsor researches in our institutions of higher learning. We copy without thinking that the society we have copied from had invested so much on their citizen and they have reach the time to enjoy and partake in entertainment. A normal scots from United Kingdom may say though we were colonized by the English but we produced Adam Smith the man who wrote 'the wealth of nations' and his defintion of economics is the most accepted during my secondary school days. Scotland produced James Watt we see him in electric bulb, we talk about 60 watts, 120 watts everytime.
Ogho, you as well know me very well, I'm not a politician. Even though I may not agree with the president view that he's going to work to make sure that Nigeria is on top 20 economies by year 2020. I still admired him because he doesn't steal. He remain the first leader to declare his assets in 1999 and replicated it again in 2007. He may not be moving as fast as I want him to be yet I regard him as a honest person who is not easily being tempted by money.

I do not think it is right for people to see what is bad and keep mute as what we are experiencing presently in Nigeria. Good conscience demands every Nigerian to stand up and defend our collective heritage in order to elevate Nigeria from its present dwindling fortunes into a global colossus. And my brother is right "when the righteous rules the people rejoice"

Emore, keep the good work and i pray that the infinity God will keep and help you and every concern Nigeria with this fight.......

Thanks so much Ogho for sharing with us what you got from the conference, especially for someone like me who wish to attend but distance is a barrier for now.

The story shared is quite insightful and practical. I like the phrase “you cannot be salt if you are not ready to get into the soup.” Hmmmmmm .......... it is thought provoking.

Nice piece my brother, keep it up.

It's time we go back to the 2 summary of the 10 commandments Jesus gave..The second was about love for our neighbours...It's time we love everyone as the same and unconditional..Even as we would love ourselves!!!
