Five cops arrested over killing of graduate at checkpoint

I saw this Newspaper publication on the Vanguard. It follows a
post I wrote a while ago about Gabriel Mordi. The excerpt is
shown below;

“A young  graduate who went to Lagos to collect his appointment
letter to enable him assume duty at one of the new generation
banks in Asaba has been brutally murdered at a police checkpoint
at Agbor, Delta state. Continue Reading »

Religion and Politics

Day two of the Excellence in Leadership conference was
insightful and of particular interest to me because of the session
I attended. It centered around the role of Christians in politics.
This is a very sensitive topic in the sense that Christians have a
role to play in the development of this country. I believe that its
not only about being a Christian, but also having the right values
in order to make the right decisions.

The facilitator was a former Attorney General and commissioner
for justice between 1999 and 2007 in Lagos State. He is also the
founder of the Orderly Society Trust and a Pastor in the Redeemed
Christian Church of God. His name is Professor Yemi Osinbajo. I’ll
like to start with a very interesting story he told us about an event
that took place while he was in Government. Continue Reading »

Social Responsibility

I attended the Excellence in Leadership Conference yesterday
being hosted by the Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Center
Pastor Sam Adeyemi. In attendance where the Governor of
Lagos State and a host of others. There were different sessions
focusingon the economy, sports, entertainment as well as the
social sector. These sessions ran concurrently so I could only
attend one of them.

I choose to attend the session on the economy. However on getting
there, I discovered that it was already full. My second choice was
the social session. This session was facilitated by Dr Mrs Joe Okei-
Odumakin who is the President of the Campaign for Democracy.
She told the story of how she had been fighting for human rights from
when she left school till now. Its a tough job I must tell you, but she
has been up to the challenge and is still holding strong. Continue Reading »

Multi Level Marketing in Nigeria

The name and the concept of multi level marketing will be received
with mixed feelings by different people. Multi Level Marketing in
plain English can be described as marketing on different levels other
than a single person working alone. There are a lot of programs out
there that have made the concept of multi level marketing in Nigeria
a restricted area because of their experiences with such programs.

I will try as much as possible to explain the benefits attached to multi
level marketing as well as the misconceptions that have been
associated with multi level marketing in Nigeria. There are two major
aspects of multi level marketing, the product and the reward system.
Any multi level marketing program that is not backed up by a product
is a ponzi scheme. This is the first step in identifying a credible program. Continue Reading »

The Nigerian Blogger’s Conference

Yesterday marked the birth of a new industry in Nigeria.
Though it has been going on for quite sometime, a group
of people have come together to build a structure out of
what seems to be a large industry that has the capacity to
grow into a formidable voice in Nigeria. The venue was
Elomaz hotel, Maryland Lagos. The event was a gathering
of Nigerian bloggers with the intention of exploring the
possibilities of collaborating and increasing the interest and
knowledge about blogging.

The event had in attendance about 80 bloggers as well as
potential bloggers. Coincidentally, a world bloggers conference
tagged blog world and new media expo was taking place in Las
Vegas. The event started with the recitation of the second stanza
of our National anthem which is our prayer for our nation. The
convener, Adeolu Akinyemi welcomed everyone to the event and
introduced himself as well as gave a brief history about when and
how he started blogging. Continue Reading »

The Power of Creativity

I heard a story about a little boy who happened to be visually
impaired. There is so much I learnt from this story and I would
like to share it with you. A blind boy sat on the steps of a building
with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: “I am blind,
please help.” He sat like that for quite some time expecting to get
some money from passers by who would be compassionate and
hand him some money. There were only a few coins in the hat
after about three hours.

Then a young man was walking by, he saw the young lad and
had compassion on him. He took a few coins from his pocket
and dropped them into the hat. He took a second look at the
boy and the sign and he got an idea. He then took the sign,
turned it around, and wrote some words on it. He put the
sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new
words. Continue Reading »

Networking

I woke up this morning and felt strongly that today will be a
great day. John McCain and Barack Obama declared a truce
yesterday bringing an end to the series of attacks in form of
campaign ads and joined Ground Zero ceremonies on the
seventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. I can remember the
shock that gripped the world in the aftermath of the attacks,
and the resulting war on terror that gave birth to the War in
Iraq.

We meet people everyday of our lives. on our way to work,
school, or any social gathering. There is always an opportunity
to meet people. Apart from meeting people, you already have
a strong network as an individual. This network comprising of
people you know is strengthened by the people they know. At
this point, you should ask yourself a fundamental question.
Do I belong to any social network? A church,  social club, an
alumni or online social networking (facebook and others). These
are the ground structures for building your network. Continue Reading »

The Nigerian Hurricane

Nigerian’s have every reason to thank God that we are not prone to natural
disasters. It is obvious from the current events going on in the America’s with
major cities facing the wrath of an angry storm. We might not have hurricanes,
earthquakes or mudslides right here in Nigeria or even in Africa, but we sure
have some political hurricanes that has caused more damage than hurricane
Gustav. The effects of natural disasters can never be overemphasized. We have
watched over the years as various natural disasters have ravaged cities leading
to the loss of lives and property. From earthquakes and mudslides in Asia to.
Hurricanes and Tornadoes in The United States of America. One thing remains
the same, they always leave a trail of tears and sorrow behind. Continue Reading »

A Chat With God

Come in,” God said to me, “So, you would like to interview Me?”
“If you have the time,” I said. He smiled through His beard and said:
“My time is called Eternity and is enough to do everything. What
questions do you have in mind to ask me?”.”None that are new to
you. What’s the one thing that surprises you most about mankind?
“He answered: “That they get bored of being children, are in a rush
to grow up, and then long to be children again. That they lose their
health to make money and then lose their money to restore their health.

That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, such
that they live neither for the present nor the future. That they live as if they
will never die, and they die as if they had never lived…His hands took mine
and we were silent. After a long period, I said, “May I ask you another
question?” He replied with a smile. “As a Father, what would you ask your
children to do hence forth?” “To learn that they cannot make anyone love
them. What they can do is to let themselves be loved. To learn that it takes
years to build trust, and a few seconds to destroy it. To learn that what is
most valuable is not what they have in their lives, but who they have in their
lives. Continue Reading »

A Matter of the Heart.

A friend of mine sent me an email. I found it insightful and also
as an eye opener. I will like to share it with you, it might be
helpful to someone out there. It reflected what I was going
through. I find this to be quite intriguing and an interesting and
thought provoking food for thought for the day, week, month,
and year and maybe for the rest of our lives.

In most cases, especially in relationships, you will only get 80%
of what you need and you will hardly get the other 20% that
you want in your relationship. There is always another person
(man or women) that you will meet and that will offer you the
other 20% which is lacking in your relationship that you want.
And believe me, 20% looks really good when you are not
getting it at all in your current relationship. Continue Reading »
