There has been an on going battle within members of the
Senate as well as members of the House of Representative
with regards to the planned review of the 1999 Constitution.
There are certain clauses that need to be reviewed, some of
the content of the constitution are not particularly serving
their purposes.
The composition of the committee is raising issues and
causing problems within the Senate and the House of
Representative. The politics of who will head this committee
is among the causes of the unrest. The leadership of both
houses had to meet to resolve their differences. The events
surrounding the review of the constitution and the utterances
made by some Senators and Honorable Members gives us a
clear picture of their intentions. Read the rest of this entry »

Ajegunle... 2025
Yesterday I had the opportunity of spending sometime with
the Program Manager’s of Paradigm Initiative ‘Ajegunle.org’
on their orientation ceremony for the new batch of 50 young
people who are being trained in basic ICT skills and
entrepreneurship. Its an interesting program that aims at
empowering the youths in Ajegunle to be able to confront the
challenges of everyday life especially in a place like Ajegunle.
The first thing that comes to your mind when the name Ajegunle
is mentioned is a slum, poverty and crime. But more than what
you’ve heard and what seems to be associated with Aj city is that
the people especially the youths desperately look forward to the
reality of a better day. They are not just paying lip service to it,
but are actually working towards it. Read the rest of this entry »

Without a doubt, the economic situation in the World and in
Nigeria which started last year will certainly continue. We can
not overlook the fact that there is an economic down turn. The
major economies of the world are fighting hard to make sure
that their economies are up and running. All the avenues where
people invested their money and put their hopes in have all gone
down.
In Nigeria for example, it was the stock market. A lot of people
put their money in the stock market. The clear direction for last
year in the market was the same as in most parts of the world,
down. Individuals and banks lost a lot of money anticipating that
things were going to remain the same. Those who put their trust
in the market saw their hopes dashed. Read the rest of this entry »

The response to my previous post on Gabriel Murdi have
been overwhelming. I appreciate all your comments and
responses. It goes to show that Nigerian’s truly desire change
and we will indeed get it. Once there is a burning desire for a
change in the status quo, that change is inevitable as long as
we put our minds to it and work towards it. I attended
Madonna University which happens to be the same institution
where Gabriel graduated from.
On Sunday, I was at my school re-union. Top on the agenda
was the death of Gabriel Murdi. A minute of silence was held
in honor of Gabriel. I met with a number of old friends and
also spoke with the National Vice President of the association.
He informed me that he led a delegation to the burial of Gabriel
Murdi. Gabriel was the first son of his family. Read the rest of this entry »

As I read the papers today, a very sad story caught my
attention. It is a painful and heartbreaking story that I think
should re-awaken the need for national re-orientation and a
change in the Nigerian system. The public sector in Nigeria
has to be overhauled and the need for excellent service
delivery must be emphasized. It is a tale of an economy gone
bad.
Gabriel Mordi is a 23 year old Public Administration graduate
of Madonna University Okija. He graduated with a second
class upper and just got a job in Zenith Bank. He was on his
way back to Asaba, Delta State from Lagos in the company
of two young men who offered him a lift from Lagos to break
the good news to his parents when the car he was in was
stopped by policemen at a check point. Before the car could
stop, there was a shot from one of the policemen. Read the rest of this entry »

Nigeria is among the top 10 crude oil producing nations in the
world. In August 2008 Nigeria along side Canada, Saudi Arabia
Mexico and Venezuela were the highest importers of Crude Oil
to the United States of America. Nigerian oil is of very high quality,
light sweet crude, particularly good for producing premium motor
spirit – PMS.
In light of the above, it is heart breaking to note that Nigeria still
imports petrol and other petroleum products from the same countries
that it sells the crude oil to. About 1,000 standard cubic feet (scf) of
gas is produced with one barrel of crude oil. Hence some two billion
standard cubic feet of gas is produced in association with oil daily. All
this gas is flared into the atmosphere, wasting resources and also
negatively affecting the atmosphere – Global Warming. Read the rest of this entry »
