The Big Heart
I have been on a little break. This break gave me the time to
evaluate a number of issues and most importantly find answers
to some pressing questions. Well, that’s for another day. I just
came back from Abuja where we had a number of financial
empowerment seminars. It was a good trip, saw some old
friends and made some new ones.
I am currently in Warri. I have not been here in a while and I
must confess, a lot has changed over the years. I got in very
late last night and the sight was beautiful, street lights on most
major streets brought out the beauty of the town. I guess a
lot of other developmental strides are going on around the
state and I am eager to see it and talk about it.
A couple of months ago a friend of mine, Festus informed me
of an event that was coming up in Delta State and asked that
I have a chat with the organizers and possibly partner with
them in making the event a success. I spoke with the organizer,
Mr Donald Onosakponome and we have since then worked
on a number of things all aimed at developing the youth and
people of Delta State.
The event is the Delta State Role Model Award. The aim of
this event is to showcase role models, individuals who are
outstanding in various fields of endeavor and have left indelible
marks in the sands of time, from Delta State and give the youth
and people of the State examples to look up to. I believe that
any individual can become any thing he/she wants to become.
The idea of having role models gives us practical examples of
people we can identify with and aspire to become.
A number of outstanding individuals have been selected for
these awards. This is also a platform for the organizers of this
event to unveil plans of how they intend to empower youths
and create a better environment. There are plans by the
organizers to partner with the government to assist in creating
a green Delta.
The event will come up on Wednesday the 20th of May and
I will be giving updates here. You can see details of this event
on www.don2dammy.com. I also interviewed a member of
the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force who explained their
struggle….an interesting read that will be coming up on another
article.
