Reflections Today
Today marks a very important day in the history of the world. I can
imagine that on this same day many years ago, Judas betrayed Jesus
on what started a series of events that will eventually lead to the
salvation of mankind. Its amazing how events turn out, I wonder what
would have gone through the minds of Jesus’s disciples when he had
the last supper with them and told them that one of them would betray
Him or how Judas felt after he had betrayed his master. The guilt, the
failure and sometimes I wonder if it was possible for him to actually
change his mind not to betray Jesus.
Today I would like to share a story, one that I think we could learn from.
There was a certain woman traveling to another country. She was at a
very large airport and she had some time to wait before passengers would
be called to board the plane. She got to a book stand, bought a book and
a pack of cookies. She then proceeded to the VIP lounge and sat down to
read her book and wait for the call to board the plane.
There was a gentleman sitting beside her and a stool in between them. On
the stool was the pack of cookies and the man also had a magazine he was
reading. She took a cookie from the pack and the man took one. She felt
irritated by his actions. She didn’t say a word and kept reading her book, she
thought to herself,’If I was in the mood, I will punch him for daring’.
For every cookie she took, the man took one as well. She was almost at the
point of letting loose and putting the man in his place, but she didn’t want to
cause a scene. Eventually, there was one cookie left and she sat patiently
waiting and saying to herself,’let me see what this abusive man would do’. The
gentle man took the last cookie, divided it into two and gave her one half.
This was unbearable. She got up in a rage, took her book and her things and
headed straight to board the plane. When she got to her seat, she opened her
bag to take her glasses and to her surprise, her pack of cookies was in her bag
untouched and unopened. She felt so ashamed, very bitter about her conduct.
The gentleman had shared his cookies with her without being bitter or angry.
She had no time to explain herself or apologize to the gentleman.
You can not take back words once they have been spoken, your actions can not
be undone once taken. It would not hurt to think things through before making our
decisions on what to do or say. There is awesome power in the tongue and our
actions could positively or negatively affect those around us. Easter is not just
another holiday, it offers us a fresh start. This holiday is the reason we are alive
today and gives us hope for the journey ahead.
Have a wonderful Easter celebration
