The Most Beautiful Children On Earth

Its the end of the year again, a time when people will remember
the less privileged in the society and give gifts of food items,
money or any other item that they deem necessary. This is very
commendable and should be encouraged as much as possible.
Some people do not see the need and do not even consider giving.
For some, its a complete waste of time and resources.

Last week, I had an opportunity to be part of a team of the
New Naija Club that went out to make a presentation to some

orphanage homes in Lagos. The Club did this last year along                                                                      with some of her members and this year was no different. It is                                                                   good and necessary for us to give to those who are not as                                                                  privileged as we are.
The story of the good Samaritan shows us what is expected
of us as individuals in the society. You do not have to go to an
orphanage home or an old people’s home to give out gifts, they
are so many around your home who do not have anything to eat
or good clothes to wear. These are the people that we should
give to. If you do not have such cases around you, partner with
people who are in the business of helping the less privilege in the
society.

Putting a smile on the faces of orphans, the poor and the needy
in the society this season is essential and commendable. However
it should not be a one off thing, there are 300 or more other days
when these children need your help. I will like to lay emphasis on
orphans because they are the most beautiful children on earth. We
can make a commitment to helping the weak in our society, that is
the New Nigerian dream.

I saw a child in one of the orphanages who, when he was brought
in was looking very sick and malnourished. It looked like he was
not going to make it. A couple of months later he was looking so
fat and healthy. I was almost in tears for some very obvious reasons.
And I’ll like to share my thoughts on what I saw. First and foremost,
the transformation showed me what love and care could do for any
human being. The wonderful men and women who have dedicated
their life to taking care of them are patriots and truly have a big
heart

Secondly, I wonder what will go through the minds of those who
abandoned their children and refused to take responsibility. If they
see the transformation, I guess they will surely regret it. I know the
economy makes it tough for some individuals, but this is not an excuse
for leaving a gift from God. I watched on the news one day, how a
mother gorilla protected her child and refused to let her go even when
the child had died for more than 2 days. She shielded everyone from
coming close and she cried her heart out.

If an animal can do this, then a lot more should be expected from us
as human beings. I might be wrong about that, however there is one
thing I am sure of. Things might not look very good now, but we have
a choice. We could choose to accept defeat and lay low or we could
stand up tall and fight on having confidence in who we are as God’s
children, clinging on to hope and strongly believing that things will indeed
get better. Lets choose to make a difference, lets affect one life this
season.
