At the right time

It seems like there is no help coming from anywhere. A man
is holding a whole nation to ransom and no one seems to be
doing anything about it. How else do you explain a scenario
where an election is being held in a country and members of
the opposition party are arrested at random, banned from
holding rallies and their supporters are either beaten, killed or
maimed.

The present situation in Zimbabwe is frightening. The inflation
rate in the economy is unbelievably high, there is hunger and
the economy is in disorder. In spite of sanctions from the
west, President Mugabe still stands his ground and is making
his country unconducive for foreigners and everyone who
tries to oppose him from within. Continue Reading »

Shaped CD

Is it possible to stand out in virtually everything you do?
Is it possible to put an end to piracy or curb it to a great extent?
The question on your mind might be,”what am I talking about
and how are this two questions related”. Well the answer is
simple.

In 1995 an idea was birthed in Germany. The opportunity to
change a CD into a different shape other than the normal round
shape was anticipated and tried. Guess what !!! It worked, and
13 years down the line, it is now in many countries all over the
world including two African countries. Continue Reading »

Stock Market Update 13/6/2008

The rumored CBN regulation which restricts margin lending
by banks seems to have resulted in a chain reaction between
the local capital market regulators,  brokers and the CBN.
Each party trading blames as to the cause of the downturn in
the market. Some believe that these are indicators that the
Nigerian stock market is relatively underdeveloped and not
properly regulated.

The NSE has been growing on an average compound rate of
46% over the past 5 years. This results over the years makes
the NSE one of the best performing equity markets in the world.
However, the recent trend in the market which has been bearish
saw stocks loosing almost all the profit that they have made for
the year. Continue Reading »

Determined

A man woke up early in order to have his morning
devotion (prayer) in the Lord’s house (church). He got
dressed, set on his way to the Lord’s house (church).
On his way to the church, the man fell and his clothes
got dirty. He got up, brushed himself up, and headed
home.

At home, he changed his clothes, and was, again, on
his way to the Lord’s house. On his way to the church,
he fell again and at the same spot! He, again, got up,
brushed himself off and headed home. At home he, once
again, changed his cloths and was on his way to the
Lord’s house (church). Continue Reading »

Barack Obama

I waited till late that night just to hear the news. The never
ending race was finally coming to a conclusion. I have
followed the race for the nomination of the democratic
candidate for the President of the United States and it was
well worth the time.

Many have called it the most interesting and intriguing
primaries in a very long time. There was so much drama,
from the case with Obama’s pastor to the sniper attack or
claim of insecurity by Hillary Clinton when she traveled to
a foreign country. These were just few of the many
happenings that made this primaries so exciting. Continue Reading »

Another tale of Love

It was a busy morning, about 8:30 am, when an elderly
gentleman in his 80s arrived to have stitches removed from his
thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at
9:00am. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it
would be over an hour before someone would be able to see
him.

I saw him looking at his watch and decided since I was
not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On
examining it I saw it was well healed, so I talked to one of the
doctors and got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and
redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him
if he had another doctor’s appointment this morning, as he was
in such a hurry. Continue Reading »
